Charlotte Motor Speedway Sinkhole

A 35-feet sinkhole appeared in the infield at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. According to sources, the large hole is the result of an underground collapse due to a deteriorating drainage pipe and not some new obstacle or blockage NASCAR drivers have to overcome at the annual fall races next week.

The sinkhole was first seen Friday night by the Charlotte Motor Speedway officials.

A few workers are now currently repairing the Charlotte Motor Speedway sinkhole in time for the Dollar General 300 Nationwide Series race on October 15 and the Bank of America Sprint Cup Series race on October 16 which will be held there.

Flintstones' 50th Anniversary Celebrated by Google Doodle

Today is the 50th anniversary of The Flintstones. The Flintstones is a popular American animated series that ran for 6 years on ABC. The Flintstones is produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. Characters include Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, Dino, Baby Puss and Doozy.

The Flintstones has contributed a lot in the popular culture. Remember Flintstones Chewable Vitamins? The ones that are shaped like The Flintstones characters and come in different fruit flavors like grapes and orange? That product is still sold by Bayer up to this day. The Screaming Blue Messiahs had a song called I Wanna Be a Flintstone on their album Bikini Red. In January 2009, IGN named The Flintstones as the ninth best in its "Top 100 Animated TV Shows".

Mara Clara Remake Stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes

Remember Mara Clara? Yup, that telenovela that ran for 5 years that starred Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes. ABS-CBN is going to do a remake!

The Mara Clara Remake will star Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes. Kathryn was the one who portrayed the role of young Jenny (Marian Rivera)in Endless Love (GMA) and the young Victoria/Anna (Gretchen Barreto) in Magkaribal.

Julia Montes was formerly known as Mara Montes, a Goin' Bulilit graduate and star of movies Caregiver (with Sharon Cuneta) and T2 (with Maricel Soriano). She was given a new screen name because she is portraying Clara and not Mara and ABS-CBN won't want to have any confusions about that.

My lola will be very happy with this Mara Clara remake! I just hope that this time, it will run for just 5 months instead of 5 years.

Explosion Rocks the Bar Exams

At least 24 persons were injured when the explosion that rocked the De LaSalle University in Taft Avenue late afternoon. Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, who came to the scene and talked to the investigators, said the bar exams traditionally had unruly street celebrations.

“But this is extreme. The students have become adventurous and they don’t seem to realize that this isn't what their parents want for them,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Authorities say the explosive was likely from a pillbox, but it was unusual considering the gravity of the impact and the number of injured.

Victims brought to the Ospital ng Maynila were identified by the hospital’s Trauma Surgery Division as Joanna Katrina Ledda, Arvin Francis Rosales, Philip Edwin Teelo, Gennilyn Ong, Cyril Ferrer, Kathleen Samba, Azenith Gonzalvo, Jamell Ann Marie and Renald Sudla.

The nine others at the PGH were identified by the hospital’s spokesman, Dr. Michael Tee, as Raissa Laurel, 23; Diana Espiritu, 28; Claudine Abrogena, 21; Datu Mohammad Abdul, 23; Generson Mercado, 25; Milanes Rainier, 24; Eunice Abdon, 23; Diane Camita, 23; and Donelle Quilates, 28.
